Meet Chelsea VanAssche and her family for #TigersFanFridays. Natives of Macomb Twp, MI, the VanAssche family has been raised with #Tigers baseball and they surround themselves with it at home and at work. For the past eight years, Chelsea and her family have been sitting in Section 321, developing friendships with the staff and #Tigers fans around them. Her favorite memory came with her family in 2012, when she watched the Tigers clinch the American League Championship Series. Recently, Section 321 lost its usher, Rufus (pictured above with VanAssche family), to cancer. Rufus was not only a friend to Chelsea and her family, but also to several others. A plaque with his name hangs at the section’s entrance in his memory. “Despite his diagnosis, Rufus came to work giving the best customer service, smiling and soaking up every second of being at the ballpark,” Chelsea said. “He always went out of his way for my family to feel like we were home when watching our boys at Comerica.” Her love of Tigers baseball and the people she met inspired her to work in sports. And now, Comerica is a place she and her family have turned into a second home. “For my family and I, it's more than just a game or a baseball organization,” Chelsea said, “Tigers baseball has gotten through some tough times as a family, has taught us to live life to fullest and to be kind to others around you because strangers can turn into friends.”
