This beautiful cuff bracelet was designed and made by #WinifredMason, a Brooklyn-born, African American jewelry maker. Mason’s work is significant to design history as she is one of the earliest known modernist jewelry designers in New York City after World War II and was the mentor to leading modernist jewelry designer, Art Smith. Mason had a studio and gallery in Greenwich Village before winning a Rosenwald Scholarship to go to Haiti to study the influence of design on the African diaspora. The museum has recently acquired cufflinks by Mason that were made during her time in Haiti. #blackhistorymonth #bkmdecarts
