In July 1962, Dubuffet was on the phone and made some doodles with a ballpoint pen. It was a eureka moment: these interlocking forms with linear shading grew to be a vast body of work known as the ‘Hourloupes’, which would occupy Dubuffet for most of the rest of his life.
