This life mask of Abraham Lincoln was made when he was emerging as a Republican presidential prospect in 1860. It took a week of morning visits to the Chicago studio of sculptor Leonard Volk. Lincoln was in Chicago to work on a prolonged court case.
The 3-D object you can explore (at http://3d.si.edu) is a 1917 copy from the casting given to the @スミソニアン博物館 in 1888. Lincoln's birthday is today.
