A pair of Bottlenose Dolphins play with a blade of grass in the warm waters of Honduras. With the second largest brains in the animal kingdom relative to body size (after only humans) dolphin’s complex lives are mostly hidden beneath the sea.
Although highly intelligent, the dolphin's brain functions somewhat differently than that of humans. Dolphins have a sophisticated sense of echolocation (known as sonar) and, unlike humans, they see much of their world acoustically. Dolphins also keep half of their brain awake at all times, even while sleeping, given that they are voluntary breathers and must be constantly on alert for predators.
