Meet 14-year-old Drew Herter for this week’s #TigersFanFridays. An eighth grader at Mountaineer Middle School in Morgantown, West Virginia, Drew has been a Tigers fan as long as he can remember. His family was born in Michigan and he was subsequently raised a Tigers fan by his mother and father — a pair of lifelong fans themselves. Like many Tigers fans, Drew and his family make sure they never miss a game on TV at their house. But unlike most fans, Drew wears his fandom everywhere he goes. At the beginning of the school year in August last year, Drew vowed to wear Tigers gear, and only Tigers gear, to school every day. So far he has succeeded, thanks to some gifts from his family back in Michigan, and what we can only assume is a really good washing machine. “He currently has 16 t-shirts and 2 sweatshirts, so there is no issue with laundry because he has enough to wear for a couple weeks if needed!” his mother, Shelly said. In fact, his fandom has earned him the nickname “Detroit” in school. His younger sister has even been dubbed “Detroit’s sister.” And the fandom hasn’t gotten in the way of earning straight A’s in classes (his mom would like you to know) as well as playing first base and pitching in his local baseball league. Drew got to visit Comerica Park for the first time last year when he came to TigerFest, but he and his family also make sure to visit an away game if it is within three hours of their home in West Virginia. The one thing Drew has trouble narrowing down? He can’t really decide which Tigers shirt is his favorite.
