Every week, we get some great submissions for #TigersFanFridays, and every week, we are thrilled to see everyone’s passion. This week, we wanted to recognize one fan whose story was so wonderful, we wanted to share his exact words. “My dad grew up an avid Detroit fan and immediately passed that passion onto me. It's no secret I'm a huge fan of any professional sports team out of Detroit and it's all because my dad got me hooked! “My dad unexpectedly passed away in 2010 and it created a lot of changes in my outlook on life. But before he took his last breath, I whispered in his ear that if my wife and I ever decided to have children, I would make sure they knew all about their Grandpa. They would know how much he would have loved them, and that he would never be forgotten. “As we thought about starting a family a few years later, we wanted to name our child something that would honor my father, stand out, and have a good story behind it. Immediately his favorite baseball player stood out and I fell in love with the name. Kaline. Whenever my dad played organized sports, his number was always 6. When asked who his favorite baseball player was, he always said Al Kaline. The name had an awesome ring to it! “When our daughter was born in 2014, she was named Kaline. My wife was fully on board with it and we named our daughter Kaline. When she gets older and is asked how she got her name, or when people say that her name is unique, she will have a story to tell. It’ll be a story that will continue to keep the spirit of her grandpa alive, a man that would have overflowed with love for his granddaughter and would have worked diligently to put the love of his sports teams (especially the Tigers) in her veins. Even though she will never meet her grandpa, she will learn so much about him just because of her name. “We went to her first baseball game last year in Toledo and are aiming to get her to Comerica Park this season. The best part was that she actually got to meet Mr. Tiger at an autograph signing last year! Now she already says ‘Go Tigers!’ ”
