Text by @enricsala : the Juan Fernandez fur seal (actually, a sea lion) is one of the few success stories in the ocean. A hundred years ago it was thought extinct, after hunters killed more than 2 million for their fur and fat. But a few individuals remained on a remote island in Juan Fernandez, Chile, and today they have recovered to 140,000 individuals.
