My grandpa Pop Jack was so funny and we were best friends. He looks healthy and happy here in my high school bedroom but later on after I graduated college I struggled to make a living while also taking care of him. He got cancer and I hated leaving him alone all day while I took the bus into New York City. His memory and body started failing. Each day while I was gone a volunteer from Meals On Wheels brought him a hot meal and checked up on him. We had no other options. I would not have made it through that period of my life with my sanity intact if it weren’t for this incredible organization. Today when I saw the plan to cut funding for Meals On Wheels I started crying thinking about all the old, sick and forgotten people who may have to struggle even harder now.
