Flowers feature prominently in the work of Hokusai, one of Japan’s greatest artists. Born in 1760 and living until he was 90, Hokusai reached the peak of his career in the last 30 years of his life. These exquisite poppies are typical of the artist’s floral compositions – the flowers just about to bloom from their buds give the impression spring is arriving.
