Coffee! This pot of brew is made of porcelain and depicts the ruins of the Temple of Thoth in the Greek named city of Hermopolis, which may delight Egyptomaniacs.
Our next photo is a porcelain milk pot with and image of the Colossi of Memnon.
Our third photo is a whole porcelain cabaret tea and coffee service. It features enamel-painted scenes from an 1802 book titled "Voyage dans la Basse et la Haute Egypt." The book includes beautiful engravings by by Dominique Vivant Denon, an art collector, diplomat, antiquarian, and artist who traveled with part of the French army in chase of the Mamluks into Upper Egypt. He recorded in his drawings every site of Egyptian antiquity he encountered.
The event that began to unlock the mysteries of ancient Egypt that so fascinated Europeans and Americans alike was Napoleon Bonaparte's invasion of Mamluk Egypt in 1798. Are you a fan of all things Egyptian?
