I am so happy to CONGRATULATE Sharon Guynup, winner of the 2017 Arlene Award “for an article that makes a difference” from the “American Society of Journalists and Authors” for her investigation into the Thai Tiger Temple! Allegations of illegal wildlife trade helped shut down this venue--and prompted a broad inquiry into Thailand's black market trade in tigers. Happy that this award will again put this issue before the public.
Sharon Guynup is a public policy fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center in DC. I shot and co-produced the video for this piece. Sharon wrote 4 stories on this topic for @ナショナルジオグラフィック and never gave up until all 147 tigers were confiscated and the temple’s tiger operations were shut down. WAY TO GO!
