Today is #WorldAutismAwarenessDay, but in our house everyday is Autism Awareness Day. .

A few years ago our son was diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum. He’s amazing and gifted but we had to throw out the blueprint for how we thought we’d raise a child. If you’ve met one person on the Autism Spectrum then you’ve met one person on the Autism Spectrum. They are all different and epic in their own way. That is why the “Awareness" side of this day is important to us. Important for early intervention, important for continued research and therapy break-throughs and important for parents, families and friends to learn how to embrace and celebrate differences. .

I have hope that we’ll be able to continue creating a world where people like our son are accepted for their differences. So next time you see a kid melting down in a grocery store or someone you meet that seems “awkward” give them some grace. It might not be our son — but it’s someone’s child. I’ll share more about our experiences down the road, but I felt this was a good time to let others know they aren’t alone.
