Consisting of subtropical islands about 1,000 kilometers south of the Japanese archipelago, the park is marked by uniquely evolved flora, fauna and ecosystems. Home to humpback whales, dolphins, green turtles, coral reefs and tropical fish, it was registered with UNESCO in 2011.
