There's nothing like going backstage at a circus. Unicyclists weave past motorcyclists who rev up to roll into their globe of steel. Clowns in slapstick shoes cross paths with lions waiting in cages for their cues. Acrobats sidestep trapezists who pull up on a practice bar. @nytmills took this photo of Paulo Dos Santos, who plays the role of Starseeker, stretching backstage before a @ringlingbros production of “Out of This World.” After 146 years of operation, the circus is ambling toward its final farewell; @ringlingbros will shut down after its last show on May 21. During these last few weeks, the men and women who’ve dedicated years to the world’s most historic #circus are looking back with pride, grief and a sense of disbelief that “the greatest show on earth” is going dark for good.
