Hawai‘i's largest hula celebration and competition is finally here. Named after King David Kalākaua, the Merrie Monarch Festival in Hilo perpetuates, preserves and promotes the Hawaiian culture and its arts. Week-long festivities include exhibitions, musical entertainment, arts and crafts fairs and the Miss Aloha Hula Competition, kahiko (ancient) and auana (modern) hula competitions.
