After witnessing the eviction of a black mother in the dead of winter, Haile Gerima wrote, directed, and produced “Bush Mama” (1975). Set in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles, the film explores the cyclical violence of living at the margins of a highly segregated metropolis.
