Expectations & pressure... My first year in Elite was back in 2007 & here we are 10 years later going for that number 1 spot!

The expectation to win is so much higher at a National race than an International one and with that comes more pressure.

At the end of the day, all we can really do (in any situation), is our best. So I focussed on my start process: Roll on straight, clip in, stand up, set body, roll wrists forward, breathe and watch for the red light. Go! The gate drops and all I can do is pedal as hard as I can & be as smooth as I can around the track.

No matter what my emotions are (excited, nervous, scared, happy, sad, angry, etc), my process will always be the same. If I do that process the best that I can, I will ride my best and the result will be what follows, whether it's first/fourth/eighth/last.

So, as that expectation and pressure was there, I brought myself back to that process, raced the best that I could on the day and my result this time was winning the National Title.

It was the hardest National Title I've raced for and that credit goes to Rebecca Petch for the intensity of that battle!

Massive thanks to the Te Awamutu BMX Club for what they achieved - two cyclones in the 2 weeks before Nationals and the track was incredible to ride on. Also another massive thanks to the volunteers for making the days run smoothly.
