Part(icle) physics: The three-quarter plate is one of the structural components of the movement, a counterbalance to the base plate that creates a frame for the complex mechanics within. It was first introduced in 1864 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange, and is now considered a typical characteristic of Glashütte calibers.
