Women were an essential part of the Soviet war effort and victory in WWII.
They took on the majority of war work and preparing defenses in threatened cities. Working double shifts to free up enlisted men to fight and increase military production. More than 800,000 women served in the Red Army armed forces. They served as pilots, snipers, machine gunners, tank crew members & in medical units. Many participated as partisans in the resistance.
