See the look on @JamesPoyser & @KirkLloyd's face? When is the last time music TRULY does that to you? Don't get me wrong @thundercat_music @dirtyprojectors @hiatuskaiyote & like 11 others made me gasp this year like "DAMN!"---but for the most part? Eh.
You know how this current administration got you head scratchin like "how are people this easily fooled!!?"----welp that was me in 97 wondering what was happening to music. Radio was quickly replacing its cool factor expert personalities and replacing them w auto playlists for sale. Force feeding you & straight up #StockholmSyndrome -ing a lot of you to truly believe you are fine with the music foods you are trying to digest (member how any naysayers were deemed #haters back then? It's #FalseNews now but still parallel) contrary to popular belief I didn't choose a side. I wanted BALANCE. There were cuts on Puff's #NoWayOut that get love & there were cuts on SV's #FantasticVol1 that also got equal love even though it was mad underground. Mariah's "Honey" could find a shelf space along with Badu's "On & On"---but in those 20 years we have phased OUT the balance a lil bit at a time and now we at a #sunkenplace not knowing if up is down or in is out. Don't fall for the okie doke. what you saying NOW about the political climate is what I was saying 20 yrs ago.
#Heatwave's #JohnnieWilder is displaying a SKILL. A well crafted SKILL to good use. A skill that stops you in your tracks. Ask your elders, #AlwaysAndForever is still a well loved song. Why? His skill set is UNMATCHABLE.
It's becoming needle in haystack level hard to find people well crafted in their art. Don't get me wrong. The art of the simple pop song is an AMAZING achievement hard to master. But that still doesn't mean you don't treat your craft as important as it can be.
Our faces are frozen because it's been a minute since we heard someone so dedicated to their work on THIS level. #ThermWarfare wasn't even a HIT or even memorable filler on the #HotProperty lp. But it should speak volumes that a throwaway #RodTemperton song is JUST as amazing as the hits. Last time I pleaded for meaningful songs. Now I'm pleading build your skillset to its apex!
