Tens of thousands of people poured into the streets of #Tehran to celebrate President Hassan Rouhani’s re-election. He defeated his hardline opponent, Ebrahim Raisi, in a landslide. #Raisi, a conservative judge who supports a strict enforcement of #Sharia law, was widely backed by religious conservatives. #Rouhani has slowly expanded social freedoms since taking office in 2013 and actively courted the support of young, urban and female voters.
