Introduced to the Surrealists in the 1930s in Paris, Romanian artist Victor Brauner developed a highly inventive technique of using pigment mixed with molten wax to create his artworks. Once the surface had hardened, he delicately incised lines with pen and ink, as seen here in ‘Polarisation’ from 1949.
