This Memorial Day, we remember those who gave their lives for our country with Vincent Valdez’s “Excerpts For John” (2012). The series presents an unfolding sequence of a military funeral procession. Uniformed pallbearers carry a casket out of a cemetery and silently march their way through city streets and into an American barrio. The procession carries on until it reaches its final resting place: home.
