Link in bio. “‘Getting closer’ can have at least two definitions: In the case of The Beatles, the most important issue was less distance and more, how do you get into their circle? For me, it came about by a series of fortuitous meetings. I had a friend, John Antrobus, who worked with Spike Milligan, who worked with Peter Sellers. All were involved with The Running Jumping & Standing Still Film (1959), a sketch comedy directed by Dick Lester. The Beatles loved the film on TV, so they asked Dick to direct their film A Hard Day’s Night (1964). He included me as a part of the package and I spent several weeks on set documenting their work.

The four had a naturalness that perhaps came about because they had never done a movie before. They never stopped joking and ‘messing about.’ I think this atmosphere helped make the film the success it was. This picture was taken on the first day of shooting.
