Small thought for the day: “And though she be but little, she is fierce”, William Shakespeare. ‘Femme Assise’ (1902) dates from the height of Pablo Picasso’s celebrated Blue period, in which the young #artist created some of his most defining works. This exquisite work on paper captures the sense of fragility and melancholy associated with this phase within its small size, measuring just 19.7 by 14cm. With gauntly stylised features, the figure is recognized to be #Picasso’s #lover, Germaine Gargallo.
