It's standard for nesting birds to check for predators before returning to their chicks, generally landing on nearby high points to scout. I spent the better part of a week watching these birds and setting up this photo, building out a strategy for remote camera placements near their high points to be as non-intrusive as possible. A lot of it is guesswork, but every now and then you end up with a nice shot!
