Started to write something on this cultural loss many times these last couple days but wasn't really ready. Hard to articulate what #MobbDeep means to me. They're among the great timeless experience creators in music history: whenever they come on- wherever you are, whatever year, however many times you heard it already, a switch flips: it takes over your spiritual attention; no gimmicks, no trends; you're transported; you join in, your face screws up, EVERYTIME, your posture, your confidence, your eye contact. Mood, energy, story, emotion, illustration, mean muggin' in the rain, lone wolf music, whole squad sound, corners in pissy elevators, fearlessness you can smell. Fighting to feel, uphill. Cold bricks, cold air, cold stares. The dark arts. The hard motivator. There's just no duo like M O B B to me.
