This morning was perfect, just spending those precious few hours together saying our goodbyes. The girls too young to really understand what was going on. I didn't try to hide my feelings, I wanted them to know it's ok to be upset, tears falling down on your beautiful cream fur.

The girls left for school and it was just us together, I watched your frail old body lie next to me breathing quietly, remembering yesteryears when you were a young girl, so much energy and eyes wide interested in the world. Your body gave up before your spirit did though, your eyes even though wise to the years never lost that spark.

Watching you say goodbye to Rolo was hard, you loved him so much. You never knew life without him. You rested your head on him softly before it was time to go.

You were brave, I knew you would be. When the vet sedated you, you became sleepy, I pulled the chair close so our faces were touching. Looks exchanged between us and said more than any words could as the final syringe entered your leg. I felt the soft puffs of air you exhaled on my cheek as we looked into each other's eyes. Then you breathed your last breath and your chin rested into my hands and you fell asleep eyes closing gently.
