This strikingly #beautiful portrait by Dante Gabriel Rossetti was last seen publically in 1959. The rediscovered #drawing shows one of Rossetti’s ‘Stunners’, the actress Louisa Ruth Maynard who used the stage-name ‘Miss Herbert’. #Rossetti described her as having ‘the most varied and highest expression I ever saw in a woman’s face, besides abundant #beauty, golden hair etc.’ Dated 1876, the portrait was probably commissioned by Ruth and her husband. By this time, Ruth had re-entered Rossetti’s life as a patron, rather than as his muse and model, and with her days on the stage a distant memory.
