Repost from @hopeandglitter using @RepostRegramApp - THAT CLINKING CLANKING SOUND... Back in the 1980s, when I was Fashion Editor of The London Evening Standard, I put together a fashion story inspired by the vogue for conspicuous consumption. Designer this, designer that, designer the other. This image is an out-take from the story that appeared on Tuesday, 25th August 1987. It was headlined 'Flash that cash'. I wrote: ‘Every day newspapers are filled with stories fuelled on fires started at the heart of the City. Cocaine fiend financiers desperate for another deal, or insider traders willing to sell their own grannies for another BT share, and always the desire for money. If you haven't enough of it then fake it until you have, or at the very least make it look as though you're filthy rich. Last seasons Power Dressing, as proposed by Katherine Hamnett, has been ousted in favour of what can only be described as Cash Couture. Money! Ah, the smell of it…’ The clothes featured included pound and dollar sign jackets by English Eccentrics, metal edged velour bowler hats by Bernstock Speirs, gold button earrings and bracelets emblazoned with more dollar signs by Eric Beamon and witty wordy brooches by Tom Binns. Photograph: Pete Moss. Models: Lori Vincent, Jean Luc. Make-up: Louise Constad. Hair: Rick Haylor. @louiseconstad @rickhaylor @akatombinns @bernstockspeirs #oldmoney #newmoney #madeofmoney #yuppies #childrenoftherevolution #takingontheestablishment #idreamedadream x
