The ultimate muse, unsurprisingly Vivien Leigh couldn’t escape the attention of the artists she met. This red chalk drawing by Augustus John is a study for an unfinished painting commissioned by her husband Laurence Olivier in 1942. Allegedly, the painting was left undone because Olivier thought that the artist had become too infatuated with his subject. The portrait shines a light on the untold story of Vivien’s deep engagement with art which she collected throughout her life, and took with her as she travelled the world.
