The Rosetta Stone has been exhibited in the Museum since 1802, with only one break. Towards the end of the First World War in 1917, the Museum was concerned about heavy bombing in London, and the stone was moved to safety along with other moveable objects. It spent the next two years in a station of the Postal Tube Railway 15 metres below the ground in nearby Holborn. It’s been back inside the Museum for nearly 100 years – come and see it for yourself in our Egyptian Sculpture Gallery! We’ve compiled the top things you should know about the Rosetta Stone in our new blog – link in bio. #AncientEgypt #Egyptian #RosettaStone #hieroglyphs #history #BritishMuseum #onthisday
