Racist Thoughts.. I don't care what color you are or where you're from. Everyone in this world has experienced some kind of racist thoughts or feelings. It could be finally passing that slow ass car on the freeway, and seeing the driver is Asian. It could have come when hearing your crude uncle tell a joke that has the "N" word on the punchline. Or maybe shaking your head seeing that slow ass White Boy kicker try to run with the football. We have all felt feelings at the expense of somebody that is not the same color as us. My thoughts came to me when I worked at Golden Apple Comics in Hollywood on the weekends when I was in High School. The shop was on Fairfax & Melrose Ave which was a big Jewish stronghold in LA. Growing up in SoCal I never really saw any Hasidic Jews until I worked there. It's was a culture shock for me.I had so much anger toward them for no reason other than the way they dressed and cut there hair. Did any of them actually do anything or say anything to me? No of course not. I just couldn't understand why they came to the US and refused to be more "American" I guess. After time my feelings faded and I got used to them being in that area (their home) and never really gave it any more thought. It wasn't until years later I went to Jerusalem and saw some Real Deal Hassidic Jews. They were way more hardcore than their counterparts in Hollywood. I realized that the hassidic families in America that I judged so hard did the best they could to assimilate and tone down their dress and traditions. All those years later I felt like an asshole. So much regret for mentally judging them the way I did. All Just because they were not like me. I think the lesson here is it doesn't matter what color you are on the outside, or how you dress and cut your hair. We all want the same things in life. Love, respect, good health, and happiness. It's also a reminder to ask yourself : Will those quick feelings I have now hold up over time? In all circumstances? Probably not. #jessejames
