With no access to Bangladesh’s health facilities, Rohingya women with a malnourished baby wait to be seen by medical professionals who work for international non-profits.
The Rohingya, a muslim minority considered one of the most persecuted in the world, has fled repression in Myanmar for generations. Earlier this year I was in Bangladesh for National Geographic Magazine when about 75,000 Rohingya refugees crossed the border to escape a crackdown launched by the Myanmar security forces after nine policemen were killed in an attack believed to have been carried out by Rohingya militants. But Bangladesh, already poor and overpopulated, shows no enthusiasm for hosting them. Half a million undocumented Rohingya live in the country with no right or access to employment, education, or basic health care. The full story was posted today on nationalgeographic.com.
