The National Park Service was created on August 25, 1916, when President Woodrow Wilson signed the National Park Service Act.
Entrance fees to all 124 National Parks that normally charge for tickets are waived today!
The National Park Service and the National Park Foundation are celebrating the birthday with a fun social media challenge inviting everyone to share their favorite park stories and tips with a twist -- can you do it in haiku? *If you can't make it out to a national park today, there are still a few more free days coming up in 2017. Sept. 30, National Public Lands Day, and Nov. 11-12, Veterans Day weekend, will also be free! #findyourpark #everykidinapark #facesoftheoutdoors
