The Lena river is the third longest river in Asia and flows north into the Arctic Ocean. The Lena massacre was the name given to the 1912 shooting of striking gold miners who protested the working conditions at a mine on the river near northern Irkutsk. The incident was credited as a starting point of revolutionary feelings in Russia.
