Like many snacks or food all over the world where there are food with names of countries or cities, but they did not originate from such places. Khanom Tokyo (lit. “Tokyo Snack”), a type of street food found only in Thailand equivalent of a snack, is sold in markets and on the sides of many streets. With the influence of Japanese food and culture, Thai people take Japanese sweets (i.e. dorayaki or yatsuhashi) and adapt it into our very own Khanom Tokyo, which is mostly served as thin rolled pancakes with sausages, minced pork, eggs, with a salty addition of sauces and a light amount of pepper. They can also be sold with sweet fillings as well. This snack first originated in the “Thai-Daimaru” department store, one of the first department stores ever in Thailand.
