End of day 1 of my visit to #Gambia with @PennyAppeal to learn more about their projects to get young girls into education. We visited a fish market where many young children have to work for 8-10 hours per day instead of being in school to make a living for themselves and their families. We also visited a dump site where children wonder through the rubbish heaps for 10-12 hours per day picking through the refuse and make less than £5 per day, an amount we would spend on a cup of coffee. Today has been a real eye-opener for me on many levels and it was moving at times, and I'm really looking forward to tomorrow when we will inshaAllah visit an orphanage and school for orphans run by Penny Appeal.
