My friends. We all stand together to help end the inhumane procedure of declawing. Please ALWAYS be respectful & educational with your comments and posts. It's wrong to threaten or be mean and it hurts our cause and plus they will turn things around and play the victim. We all know the only victims are all the cats who are having their toes and claws amputated for lame and weak excuses. @saintfrancisvet posted on their fb page yesterday of the sad photo of KC the cat that they declawed. They told us he was declawed because the family has multiple cats, and KC has a communicable disease transferred through bodily fluids like blood and saliva and they said a declaw minimizes the risk of transferal from the cat's play to the other cats. ? The @saintfrancisvet social media guru asked me what is my advice. So here it is. If they are talking about FIV or FeLV, two diseases that are transmitted through bodily fluids like blood and saliva and therefore most commonly transmitted by deep bite wounds. Would you remove the cat's teeth as well? If not, why not? They pose even more danger than the claws. Also, FIV is very rarely transmitted to other cats in friendly households. If you're talking about FeLV, then I suppose there's a chance, but declawing will do nothing to prevent it. The other cats can be vaccinated, and the owner can be educated about the risks of rough play or the cat can be rehomed to a FeLV positive home or a home with no other cats. Many cats live long & happy lives, never succumbing to FIV or FeLV morbidity. I believe with a good diet & excellent vet care, these viral positive cats can live quite healthy lives. NO one would recommend declawing to stop the transmission of these viruses, so please be so kind as to tell me what communicable disease requires declawing to prevent its transmission. They never responded. @saintfrancisvet is now saying they want to help our cause & collaborate with me. I told them that if they stop declawing & support the anti-declawing bill in NJ then I will believe that they are sincere. #pawsneedclaws #hopeful
