THE DOUBLE SOLE WULFRUN

The shoe has been with #Underground from early 1980’s and was one of the obvious choices for our 1987 #Originals collection. At that time, the #Creeper had seen a revival in the late seventies #Punk era, yet become reclusive. Underground took up the shoe with an enthusiasm matched by no other. Making subtle changes like bringing in new colours, materials and playing with sole heights- our famed single, double, triple-we were able to create a winning array of options.
The #DoubleSole #WulfrunCreeper featured here was one of the core styles through the 80’s and 90’s, serving one tribe after another.
Punks, #PostPunks, #Psychobillies, #Harajuku kids, and even US West Coast off-duty surfers and skaters adopted them. Following that, into the 00's and it became a shoe of choice on the runways. Finally, the 2010’s- when the Underground Creeper broke out as a the flatform of choice for the internet generation. Thanks of course to the likes of @リアーナ and @レディー・ガガ who both donned them. Wulfrun Creepers became a staple in theirs and many shoe closets.
No doubt one of our favourite shoes here at Underground, and always central to our core values for so many reasons.
• We found the style uncared for and sought to bring it new life and give the attention it deserved. We were indifferent to the negative attention that we got. There were times when the shoe and Underground were ridiculed. We ignored that and the proliferation of copy styles stands testament to our resilience and indifference to others.
• It was one of the first of our collection to carry a name and with many of our shoes named after live music venues. It was an early statement of intent to bring attention to those places so key to music in Britain.
• It is and has always been Allgender. We have never created a girls or boys collection- it has always been that way and expressive for all who wear it.
• The global appeal, London, Liverpool, Paris, Singapore, New York or Tokyo, interpreted in different ways but never looses key ingredients of Authentic, British, Subculture inspired.
That’s it. Protecting and projecting British Subculture. The double Wulfrun is safe with us.
