Growing up in New York, almost all of my closest friends were born and bred New Yorkers (and like me, a lot were first generation American). When I started my blog almost 8 years ago, I became close with a lot of transplants who would often tell me that I have a New York accent. It wasn't something I was used to hearing and in the beginning, I felt almost self conscious about it. I'm not even sure why, but I attribute it all to age. Now, it's something I love and embrace.
