Photo by @Tim Laman. I’m sharing this Raggiana Bird-of-Paradise to say Congratulations and happy Independence Day (on 16 Sep) to everyone in Papua New Guinea. Though everyone in PNG knows it, what the rest of you around the world may not know is that this spectacular bird of paradise is the National Bird of Papua New Guinea. It’s even on the flag! I photographed this in #PapuaNewGuinea a few years ago. It is pretty crazy how many orange plumes this displaying male has coming out of his sides. #PNG, #birdsofparadise, #birdofparadise, #birds, @natgeocreative, @thephotosociety.
