Painted in 1998, Mount Royal by Hurvin Anderson was based on a photograph of the artist's sister, who emigrated to Canada and sent the snapshot back to her family.

Born in the UK Midlands to parents of Jamaican origin, Anderson is fascinated by the experience of geographic dislocation. His works, created by filtering source imagery through a variety of techniques, seek to evoke the sensation of dreaming from afar.
