This is Marcel Duchamp’s ‘portable museum’, a compendium of almost all of his art in miniature and an original Duchampian work in its own right. ‘Everything important that I have done can be fit into a little suitcase,' the artist once said.

Blurring the lines between object, exhibition and reproduction, La boîte-en-valise is a brilliant embodiment of Duchamp’s career. The project preoccupied the artist from 1933 onward and he continued to reproduce and remake differing versions for the rest of his life.

This version, Series F, produced in 1966, is the final and most complete of all the various editions.
