Sixty years ago today, nine Black students paved the way by integrating an all-white school following the Brown v. Board of Education decision that banned segregation. On their first day of school, the Little Rock Nine were escorted past an angry mob by federal troops to start their first day at Little Rock Central High. As the school year went on, they would endure violent threats, harassment, and even have acid thrown on them. The courage and bravery they embodied would pave the way for desegregation at schools, but the struggle they endured still persists today. Let us use today as a reminder that we must address the disparities in education for students of color.
