Set in Berlin, Paris or New York, Lindbergh’s cinematic references are a distinctive feature of his work. Having grown up in the Ruhr Valley he was inspired by Fritz Lang’s 'Metropolis' (1927), in which everything he was familiar with — factories, a normal life with workers — was transformed into a visual masterpiece. For the young Lindbergh, 'Metropolis' was an inspiration that later gave his women control of the monstrous machines.

Alfred Hitchcock’s cult movies ‘Psycho' (1960) and 'The Birds' (1963); Martin Scorsese’s ‘Goodfellas' (1990); along with movie studio equipment, sets and lighting, help him to create his own version of movie making in his art.
