From the mountain hollows of Appalachia to the vast open plains of Wyoming, the #coal industry long offered the promise of a 6-figure income without a 4-year college degree. But today, as King Coal is being dethroned — by cheap natural gas, declining demand for electricity, and even green energy — what’s a former miner to do? Consider a job in #renewableenergy. Goldwind Americas is ready to provide as many as 850 giant wind turbines for a power plant planned in Wyoming, and the company is looking for candidates, particularly unemployed coal miners, to become technicians to maintain and operate the #turbines. Goldwind offers a program that teaches the basics of wind farm operation, maintenance and safety and costs participants nothing but their time. Those that complete the full program will receive certifications that could open the door with any employer they chose. @george_etheredge photographed this view from the top of a #turbine in Musselshell, #Montana. During the course of the 2-week Goldwind’s program, participants get the chance to scale this 250-foot tower.
