This still-life by Magnelli was created in the immediate aftermath of his visit to Paris in 1914, with his experiences of the French capital still fresh in his mind.

Combining elements of the Futurist, Fauvist and Cubist compositions he had seen on his journey, the work demonstrates the growth of Magnelli’s own style, as he absorbed these new artistic languages and adapted them to his own techniques.
