The historic 1937 exhibition “Sculpture by William Edmondson” made Edmondson the first black artist to have a solo exhibition at MoMA. Exactly eighty years later, his work returns to MoMA’s galleries. Using discarded stones, Edmondson carved a vast array of figurative characters and creatures—among them was “Nurse Supervisor.” Meet the limestone figure on the fifth floor of our #MoMACollection galleries.
